Visiting the Memorial

    Prior to September 11, 2001 visitors to the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado would be allowed on base just to see the small boat display. Since that  time,   security has been at very high levels. Currently, persons without a Department of Defense ID card and “base sticker” must be escorted by someone who has t these forms of identification.

 After the 21 May 2005 dedication, advance arrangements must be made for escort of non-DOD personnel when desiring to visit the Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument. These arrangements can be made through the links on this web site with the SBSA, MRFA and Gamewardens of Vietnam or by calling those listed below.

 Local contacts are:

   Mobile Riverine Force Association (CCB): Charles Campbell (619) 427-6835; Everett Jones (619) 421-3721;

 Sufficient advance notification must be made to ensure that coordination with the volunteers, who donate their own

time, can be made.  Some are still employed.

 If someone has the appropriate identification to get on base, you should know that the Memorial is located inside the Naval Amphibious Base, just east of the Club Coronado and south of the Naval Surface Force headquarters building.  The total distance from the main gate is less than a quarter of a mile.  Upon entering the base, take an immediate right.  Go one long block and turn left. The Club Coronado will be on your right. Just past the Club Coronado, you will see the Memorial Wall and Boats at the intersection.

The Naval Amphibious Base is located south of the City of Coronado and the Hotel Del Coronado on the bay side of the Silver Strand.
